Vision Statement
At RHA, we firmly believe that Science plays a key part developing curiosity towards and understanding of the world around us. As such we aim to foster, in every pupil a sense of curiosity, wonder and awe in the world around us. Our curriculum is designed in order to not only give the students the knowledge they need to be successful in exams but also to develop skills to support them in their wider life.
Curriculum Overview
At KS4 we follow the AQA Trilogy specification. This results in students achieving 2 GCSE grades in Science. All students study topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, all of which include required practical's. Assessment takes the form of 6, 75 minute exam papers. The broad and balanced nature of the course enables students to use GCSE Science as a stepping stone to move on to either further studies in a range of subjects, or apprenticeships and employment.
Cultural Capital
Through the study of science, students learn a variety of ways of communicating their thoughts and experiences, they develop a scientific way of thinking that enables them to solve problems, they develop a knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting the environment. Students get the opportunity to take part in a wide range of Science and STEM events including outside teachers delivering theme days, Science week activities, trips to careers fairs, outside speakers. Developing skills that are often associated with people working in Science, such as resilience, problem solving, open mindedness, will stand our students in good stead regardless of their career choices later in life.
