The Coastal Academy Trust held their first ‘Excellence in Science Day’ for Year 11 students on Thursday 10th March. Students from The Royal Harbour Academy, Hartsdown Academy, King Ethelbert School and Dane Court Grammar School came together to develop and consolidate their understanding of science to help them prepare for their GCSE exams and to raise aspirations for future Stem careers.
Students took part in bespoke biology, chemistry and physics revision sessions, including a a science ‘Escape Room’ style activity and had a talk from Stem Ambassador, Dave Margetts, on Medical Physics careers and the treatment of cancer.
Students and staff said how valuable they found it to have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and students said that they now feel more confident about how to approach their revision for their summer exams. One student said, "The science trip was amazing and so useful, can we do that again?", and another commented, “It was a very informative day. I learnt a lot”, and "It really helped me with nuclear equations".
